“On the one hand, it is the only way really to make money out of music these days because record sales and downloads do not create an income like they did in the old days. Since he has become one of the biggest and most well recognised dance artist it’s intriguing to get his personal feeling on the current state of EDM and how making coin off your work isn’t as simple as it used to be – As a large portion of Fatboy’s income comes from the royalties off commercial use, The Fifa video game franchise seem to be fans of his work as they featured The Rockafeller Skank, in FIFA ’99, and has again placed in FIFA ’13. If there was such a thing as a superstar DJ in music when I started out, I would’ve gone straight for that.” If you wanted a career in the music business, you had to be in a band. DJs were just people who played in their local nightclubs, and we didn’t travel the world, and we didn’t have hits on the radio, so that wasn’t an option really. When I started out there was no career as a DJ. Time told me that I am a better DJ than I am a bass player and I enjoy it more. “I realised that I was happier and better at DJing than I was playing in a band. In a time where DJ status meant you were nothing more than adude spinning some tunes at your near by club, Cook explains how his previous musical commitment wasn’t truly satisfying and that becoming a DJ was pretty much just a passionate hobby. Jet Grind Radio got me into Jurassic Damn that was long time ago.In a recent interview with veteran of dance music Fatboy Slim aka Norman Cook interestingly discussed the EDM scene in it’s current status, as well as his love for Skrillex. ^^^ Damn man you should have done this list instead of me Nas - (this was the stepping-off point for my entire post-Eminem hip-hop collection) Red Hot Chili Peppers ("Fight Like a Brave" was the first song I ever heard by the band)

THPS 2 (the real starting point of my entire musical journey.this, and church camp): Here's where they all stand (keep in mind that I'm listing bands that I got into specifically because of these games, not just bands I enjoyed from them): There are quite a few popular bands that I hadn't heard before games.

The Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series is the single biggest contributor to my musical journey-well over half of my music tastes today has its foundation in video games. Actually, EA Trax (they're no longer existence) arranged plenty of great soundtracks for EA Sports games. That being said, "Burnout 3: Takedown" got me into pop-punk bands. "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" has perhaps the best video game soundtrack ever when it comes to licensed tracks. Tony Hawk's Underground, Refusal by Strike Anywhere Halo 2, Blow Me away by Breaking Benjamin Most of my Tony Hawk days are represented by the following īurnout 3: Takedown, nearly every band on that sound track, but Clones by Ash Got into Morrissey (and by extension the Smiths) when Irish Blood, English Heart was on the 05 soundtrack (I think)Īlso i'm not much of a fan of brostep-style dubstep but saints row 4 had that bomb ass Vindicate track so i checked a bit more of the genre and found some ok stuff in the end Old GTA's got me into hip-hop in general so yeahįIFA soundtracks used to have some good stuff. Some of the Guitar Heroes for sure, but definitely NFS Hot Pursuit 2. Oh yeah, Def Jam definetly had some great jamz Never got into a band but I've looked up some songs, some zebrahead from THPS 2 or 3 is one that comes to mind

I discovered The Flaming Lips from one of the Rock Bands a bunch of other bands too from around those years but that one especially comes to mind because the song featured on the game really blew my mind back then I got into protest the hero through nhl 09 or whatever. Even though most of them were kinda shit, they had ok songs. I remember the need for speed games, especially Most Wanted got me into a lot of bands. But yeah, basically every GTA game had great soundtracks GTA got me into a lot of stuff as well though the ones I listed are the ones I can recall easily.

Tony Hawk got me into PM5k back in Pro Skater 2ĭamn I forgot about Guitar Hero, how could IĪll those early 00's madden and nba live games I think it was an SSX game, it got me into Billy Talent and 3 Inches of Blood. Iron Maiden and music in general from Guitar Hero III. Tony Hawk's games always had cool soundtracks, and when I got into metal I can't forget how good was the soundtrack of Brutal Legend. I think most of us have gotten into a band through a video game. Game: Grand Theft Auto Vice City (PlayStation 2) Song: West End Girls (Single, not on this album) Game: Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 (PlayStation 1) Game: Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 (PlayStation 1) Game: Tony Hawks Downhill Jam (PlayStation 2) Has any video game got you into a band? List is bands that I heard the first time thanks to a video game.
